What is GMB optimization?

GMB optimization, short for Google My Business optimization, is the work of setting up every part of your Google Business Profile correctly. Google renamed Google My Business to Google Business Profile in 2021, but the job is the same: make your listing complete, accurate and as relevant as possible to the searches you want to win.

Most profiles we review have the same gaps. The primary category is too broad. Services are missing. Hours do not match the website. There are few photos, no description and old posts. Each gap is small, but together they keep a business out of the map pack.

Our GMB optimization service is a one-off project. We audit your profile, fix everything we find, and hand you a simple checklist for keeping it in shape. If you want ongoing help after that, our Google Business Profile management keeps the listing updated every week, and our GMB SEO campaign works on climbing the map pack.

You stay the owner of your profile throughout. We work as a manager on it, and you can remove our access whenever you like.

Pricing

How much does GMB optimization cost?

GMB optimization is a one-off project fee. It is one of the most affordable local SEO services, because the work is focused on a single profile.

The price depends on these things.

  • Number of locations. Each profile is optimized separately.
  • Profile state. A suspended or unverified profile needs extra work.
  • Photos. Using your photos is quicker than arranging new ones.
  • Duplicates. Duplicate listings must be merged or removed first.

What you get from us

  • A full Google Business Profile audit
  • Correct primary and secondary categories
  • Services, description and attributes filled in
  • Hours and details matched to your website
  • Photos, logo and cover image
  • A checklist to keep your profile in shape

Good to know

Our Google My Business optimization checklist

Here is the checklist we work through, in order of importance. You can use it to check your own profile.

First, your business name should be your real name, with no added keywords. Next, pick the most specific primary category that fits your main service, then add relevant secondary categories. Make sure your address or service area, phone number, website and hours all match your website exactly.

Then fill in everything else: your services, a clear description, attributes, opening date, and at least ten good photos. Turn on messaging only if you can reply quickly. Add booking or quote links if you have them. Finally, set up a simple way to ask every customer for a review. After that, steady review management keeps the profile growing.

Once the profile is in shape, keep it active. Post updates, add photos and reply to reviews regularly. An optimized profile that is then left alone slowly slips.

Duplicate listings are a common hidden problem. A business that moved, changed its name or was listed by a past owner can end up with two profiles. Duplicates split your reviews and confuse Google. We find them during the audit and get them merged or removed.

Service-area business? If you visit customers instead of having them come to you, you can hide your street address and list the areas you serve. Google allows this and it keeps your home address private.

Signs your profile needs optimizing

  • You chose your categories years ago and never checked them
  • Your services list is empty or incomplete
  • Hours or phone differ from your website
  • You have only a few photos, or none of your own
  • There is no business description
  • You have never compared your profile with competitors

FAQ

GMB optimization questions, answered

What is GMB optimization?

GMB optimization is the process of setting up every part of your Google Business Profile, formerly Google My Business, correctly: categories, services, details, photos, description and attributes. It makes your listing complete and relevant to the searches you want to rank for.

What is the difference between GMB optimization and management?

Optimization is a one-off project to fix and complete your profile. Management is the ongoing weekly work of posting, adding photos, replying to reviews and watching for unwanted edits.

Is Google My Business still worth it?

Yes. It is now called Google Business Profile, and it is still the free listing that puts you on Google Maps and in the local map pack. For most local businesses it is the single most important piece of local SEO.

How long does GMB optimization take?

The project itself usually takes one to two weeks. Changes to categories and details can affect rankings within a few weeks of Google processing them.

Can optimizing my profile get it suspended?

Not if it is done within Google’s rules. Suspensions usually come from rule-breaking changes, like adding keywords to the business name or using an address Google does not accept. We check for these risks before making changes.

Do you offer GMB optimization near me?

If you are in Brooklyn or anywhere in New York City, yes. The work is done online, so we can also optimize profiles for businesses elsewhere in the US.

What is included in Google My Business optimization?

Categories, services, business description, attributes, hours, holiday hours, contact details, booking links, photos, logo and cover image, plus a check for duplicates and suspension risks.

How much does GMB optimization cost?
